Military and political insignia have long served as visual indicators for a range of information. Rank, nationality, unit, skill specialization, and prior service can all be represented through patches and insignia.

Likewise, patches are a common souvenir brought home by service members and can represent where people have been, who they’ve met, and who they’ve defeated.
